The IEEC leads the development of the <strong>Catalonia NewSpace Lab<\/strong>, an initiative coordinated by the Generalitat de Catalunya with the aim of promoting, developing and strengthening the key infrastructures of NewSpace in Catalonia. Part of these infrastructures are the stations that allow telecommunications with nanosatellites.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_2,1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.18.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;||50px||false|false&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.18.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text module_class=&#8221;orange-links&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; text_text_color=&#8221;#1a1140&#8243; link_font=&#8221;||||on|||#160019|&#8221; link_text_color=&#8221;#160019&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the past few years, significant efforts have been made to equip the Montsec Observatory (OdM) with the capability to <strong>host satellite communications stations<\/strong>. This project has been consolidated with the formal establishment of the <\/span><b>Sant Esteve Teleport<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the OdM, promoted within the framework of the NewSpace Strategy of the Government of Catalonia, in collaboration with the IEEC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sant Esteve Teleport is the area that provides services to ground communication stations. The Sant Esteve Teleport is a facility committed to serving the region and promoting the space sector. Additionally, it is registered as a collaborating infrastructure of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/esaphilabnet-spain.ieec.cat\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ESA Phi-labNET Spain<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Barcelona, a programme coordinated by the IEEC and driven by a consortium of 12 universities and research and innovation centres.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The privileged location of the OdM, free from obstacles on the horizon and with low radio-frequency interference, makes it an ideal site for the ground communications station.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Montsec Satellite Ground Station<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SGSMontsec) was the first to be installed in the Observatory and the precursor to the Teleport. In other words, it will provide uplink and downlink capabilities in the S band, as well as downlink in the X and Ka bands of the radio spectrum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leaf Space, an expert in satellite connectivity services on a global scale, will install and operate this antenna in collaboration with the IEEC in the near future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The station will provide <\/span><b>uninterrupted horizon-to-horizon coverage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with no blind spots, and high precision in satellite tracking. Its multi-band operation capability enables a single platform to track any standard Earth Observation satellite. The antenna will be equipped with a protective radome to ensure operations under any weather conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Satellite missions promoted under the NewSpace Strategy\u2014such as the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieec.cat\/en\/newspace\/missions-satel%c2%b7litaries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Menut mission and GENEO-2<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is set to launch soon\u2014will use this station for mission control and data downlink. Designed and installed by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nanosatlab.upc.edu\/en\/facilities-folder\/ground-segment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NanoSat Lab<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.upc.edu\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya &#8211; BarcelonaTech<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (UPC) and managed in collaboration with the IEEC, it was inaugurated on 12 June 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The antennas are controlled from the Operations Centre in Barcelona, where satellite passes are planned and data is processed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; text_text_color=&#8221;#1a1140&#8243; header_text_color=&#8221;#1a1140&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>UHF\/VHF bands antenna<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; text_text_color=&#8221;#1a1140&#8243; header_text_color=&#8221;#1a1140&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The amateur UHF\/VHF Yagi type band antenna was installed on the Montsec Observatory together with the control equipment in the Joan Or\u00f3 Telescope building, in 2018. This station has successfully participated in the NanoSat Lab <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieec.cat\/en\/project\/20\/cubecat-programme-sup3-cat-\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b3Cat-1 and \u00b3Cat-2 missions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It is expected that it will continue to serve experimental and academic missions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; header_text_color=&#8221;#1a1140&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>S-band antenna<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; text_text_color=&#8221;#1a1140&#8243; header_font=&#8221;||||||||&#8221; header_text_color=&#8221;#1a1140&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The S-band antenna with reception capacity has a 3-metre diameter disc. The main missions in which the S-band antenna has participated are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieec.cat\/en\/project\/20\/cubecat-programme-sup3-cat-\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FSSCat<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, from the NanoSat Lab in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieec.cat\/en\/newspace\/missions-satel%c2%b7litaries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enxaneta<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the first nanosatellite of the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia promoted and developed jointly by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the
